Is any of this stuff libellous?

UK defamation law explicitly protects satire and hyperbole. To meet the legal threshold for defamation, content must cause "serious harm" to a reputation, and a "reasonable person" must believe the statement to be a true statement of fact.

Neither condition applies here. No reasonable reader takes this site as factual statement, and we mark every page as "100% SATIRE" to reiterate this point. Parody remains fully protected by law.

Ok, so it's not libellous, but isn't the site mean?

We think not. This site runs on algorithms on your browser, designed to mirror the absurdity of their platform.

We have tested the output extensively and removed genuinely harmful entries, because something has come up that we think is mean or wrong. We don't want to cross a line. If you think something has rendered that is obscene or nasty, please drop us a line on our contact us page and we'll investigate and - if necessary - change the algorithm file.

However, it's important to highlight why we have done this. Reform in Mid Cheshire — through their social media channels, members, key personnel, and affiliated groups — have consistently harassed, attacked and maligned their opponents with lies and distortions. They are bullies, and so we are responding. And we know bullies hate it when those they seek to control, fight back. Make no mistake, this is a counter-attack and while we have standards and red lines we won't cross, we're not here to play nice.

So, it's not libellous and it's not mean, but isn't it just stooping to their level?

A bit. But you don't fight a wild fire with polite conversation. When local representatives turn social media into a toxic swamp of harassment, humour is the cleanest disinfectant. Reform in Mid Cheshire, through their councillors and associated pages, have obsessed, bullied, harassed and libelled. So that makes them, their supporters and their elected representatives, absolutely fair game. And we know two wrongs do not make a right, but we are responding the only way we know how.

It's sparklingly naive and foolish of them to not think they could behave so abominably and not get a reaction from those that they have wronged and abused. Isaac Newton and his third law of motion basically says "for every action, there is a reaction." And this is ours. Far from using nastiness or violence, that is on their level, we have brought wit and a little light-hearted teasing to counteract their vile toxic bullying.

But we'd rather not do this. We could all use our time better.

The offer to Mid Cheshire Reform UK

We will dismantle and shutter this site the moment Reform UK Mid Cheshire meets the following non-negotiable conditions on their official platforms:

This is not to neuter scrutiny or accountability. Some of the people here are in public positions and it's appropriate that they can be criticised and challenged. Democracy demands it. But there are standards of decency that are required, and taking a contrary position should never involve bullying, misinformation, lying, physical threats, violence or more. Basically, stop being absolute shitbags.

Reform key personnel cannot act as relentless aggressors online and then play the victim when held to account. You made yourselves, your supporters, and your representatives targets for parody. But if the above people and groups make the apologies in public, retract and remove all untrue allegations that harass and defame and agree never to post such horrendous nonsense again, we will change the site to remove all the teasing and taunting and just host copies of their apologies.

And if there is any reneging on the deal, we will simply reactivate the site. In all its glory. That's the offer and the deal: when Reform stops being dreadful and immoral people, we will stop satirising them. Argue over policies and how to improve the town and the country, and cease with the personal attacks.

Because, when they cry foul, they have a clear option: if they do not like this site and want to stop being ridiculed by us, they simply need to be better human beings. Or stop being so publicly awful.

The choice is yours, Mid Cheshire Reform: clean up your conduct, issue the apologies, and this site gets nuked. Continue the toxic behaviour, and we will keep holding up the mirror.
